About
Stephen

Stephen G. Webster
Stephen’s practice is built upon his promise to never sacrifice justice for convenience. Before becoming a lawyer, Stephen worked in the construction industry. During his time working as a contractor, a close friend of his was charged with a crime he did not commit. Stephen watched the criminal process slowly unfold and saw first-hand how it upended his friend’s life. His friend refused to accept any plea offer, and the charges were eventually dismissed at trial. That experience prompted Stephen to apply to law school, and he embarked on a career change with a steadfast determination to ensure that justice is served in every case he works on.
Education & Career Start
Stephen obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average. He then received his Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law, where he graduated Cum Laude.
After law school, Stephen worked as an Assistant State Attorney in the Second Judicial Circuit, where he honed his skills as a trial attorney. Then, Stephen went on to work with a prominent criminal defense firm that focused on white-collar criminal defense. Throughout his experience with this firm, Stephen worked on complex white-collar criminal cases in multiple states. Stephen moved on to work for another prominent Tallahassee firm with a broader scope of practice. At this firm, Stephen had an opportunity to handle cases involving: complex civil litigation representing both plaintiffs and defendants, political opposition, employment cases, and administrative cases. Stephen left his last job to start his own firm in January 2013.

Webster + Baptiste
In June of 2014, Stephen was retained by FSU Law Professor Dan Markel to serve as trial counsel for him in an ongoing family law proceeding. At that time, Stephen represented a client who was involved in a complex criminal prosecution, and he asked Professor Markel for help in hiring a law student to work on that case. Without hesitation, Professor Markel recommended Louis Jean Baptiste, and that is how Stephen and Louis came to meet and work together. Professor Markel was tragically murdered shortly after he introduced Stephen and Louis. They were deeply saddened by his death and are forever grateful to Professor Markel on both a professional and personal level. Stephen and Louis pray that all of the persons responsible for Professor Markel’s death are held accountable and that Professor Markel’s family receives every measure of justice.
